The beginnings were in 1977 as a hobby nursery on a small field opposite the parental farm in Nordloh. Then, in 1980, an old barn with some small pieces of land were acquired in Apermarsch. This laid the foundation for today's company location. After some rebuilding work, the barn then served as a residential building and the first plants were produced on the fields. Right after that Arno became self-employed in 1985 and founded his nursery.
In the beginning, all plants were cultivated as outdoor plants , growing directly in the free fields, and they were digged out by Arno himself. At that time, working with spades and hand cutters was part of the everyday life and tendonitis was also a part of that. Over time, more and more cultures were cultivated in pots and the plants on the free field became less and less. Today the hand cutters are just souvenirs and the free fields have become completely history.
Over time, the nursery continued to grow and the trading company Delger Pflanzenhandel GmbH was founded in 1998. Plant trading was done in the residential building for the first six years. Since this became too small over time, a new residential building was built in 2004 and the former barn was converted into workers accommodations and an office.
In 2005 we were able to purchase an old farm nearby. After rebuilding work, this was initially purely used as a place for only young plants. Today, in addition to the young plants, there are also plants for sale over there.
In the meantime, the company has grown to almost 30 hectares, of which 27 hectares are container areas. Our mainly assortment consists out of Calluna vulgaris from the Gardengirls brand, Erica, Hebe, Hydrangeas, various Shrubs, Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Grasses. Through the trading company we can also offer a complete full range.
However, none of this would be possible without our 19 permanent employees and our seasonal helpers. It is extremely important to us that every employee is respected and that we enjoy our work. As we are a family business and uphold the values, we treat each other as such and also do things outside of working hours from time to time like e.g. a summer party. With us, every employee also has a word in operational decisions. This means that our employees help design and create their own workplace and are able to optimize e.g. operational processes.
Since 2013, at the age of 27, Dennis had to run the business due to Arno's suddenly leaving. Arno returned after a year and noticed that the company continued to run even without him. He now lives near Berlin (Lychen) and cultivates Christmas trees on 30 hectares in his own company Forst- und Schnittgrün Delger.
